While it is never recommended to operate any device beyond its published specifications, understanding the impact of stressful operation is often necessary. When there is performance uncertainty in the design phase, the technical staff at DD & S is available for a critical analysis.
Applications that are candidates for special analysis include (1)Military equipment applications,(2) Any spacecraft application, (3) High end video or telecommunications applications and (4) Designs for medical applications.
When one is considering the possibility of requesting such analysis for a given design they should ask themselves important questions:
(1) Will the die be required to operate in a stressful environment (e.g. –55ºC to 125ºC, high vibration, exposure to solvents, etc.)?
(2) Am I confident of die mounting technique planned for this application?
(3) Will the thermal dissipation capability of the system be adequate to protect the device?
(4) Is this die performing a mission-critical function?
(5) Do the timing demands on the device exceed the spec sheet parameters?
